Dr. Fred Bortz spent the whole school day at Wendover Middle School on November 26, 1996, as our fifth annual author visitor.
We were pleased with every contact we had with him, both before and during his presentations. He was very organized and well prepared. His visit included addressing three assemblies of about 200 students each, lunching with the teachers, visiting individual classrooms to answer questions from students, and signing copies of his book Catastrophe!, which many students had purchased beforehand.
Our students enjoyed listening to Dr. Bortz speak about science and his own personal stories about the choices he made on his way to becoming a writer of science books for young adults. They appreciated the souvenir bookmarks he had printed up for the occasion as well.
All in all, I would say this visit was very successful, and Dr. Bortz is a good choice for a visiting author.
